The TrueNorth Greater Cedar Rapids Open, presented by Granite City Food & Brewery, is pleased to announce an increase in the Senior Division purse for the upcoming 2017 tournament.
With the help of Airport National Golf Course owners and PGA pros Mark Lemon and Matt Erger, the purse will increase $2,000. Airport National is anteing up $1,000 and the GCRO will match that to help increase interest in that division.
“We are delighted to be able to help promote more Senior golf pros playing in the 2017 GCRO,” said Lemon, a former GCRO Senior champ, in making the announcement.
Lemon, the reigning Iowa PGA Senior Player of the Year, and Erger own and operate Airport National, which is just 4 miles east of the Eastern Iowa Airport. The Senior Division, which includes all golfers 48 years of age and older, boasts former champions like Lemon and Rob Garwood, who continues to play well on the PGA Champions Tour.
“We’re delighted to help promote more Senior golf pros playing in the 2017 GCRO,” said Lemon. “We certainly appreciate the GCRO family allowing us to become a small part of now their 19th annual tournament.”
The Senior Division purse was expected to be $5,000 based on 10 pros playing. The purse will now be $7,000. There is no 36-hole cut for the Seniors.
The tournament begins July 25 and 26th with three Pro/Ams at Hunters Ridge Golf Course in Marion. The 54-hole tournament proper begins Thursday, July 27 and will conclude Saturday, July 29. The public is welcome.
