Culver’s restaurants will sponsor the TrueNorth Greater Cedar Rapids Open Junior Golf Clinic Tuesday, July 21, at Hunters Ridge Golf Course.
The clinic is free to all kids and all participants will receive a free collared GCRO golf shirt and a chance to win a set of junior golf clubs.
Golf professionals who have entered this year’s 17th annual TrueNorth GCRO will handle the instruction for the clinic. There will be three stations set up for the clinic covering driving the ball, putting and chipping. The clinic will begin at 10 a.m. and figures to run about 90 minutes.
“We are so pleased Culver’s stepped up to help sponsor this activity,” said GCRO co-founder and tournament director Jim McPartland. “We’ve wanted to do this on an annual basis. Junior golf has always been one of the main beneficiaries of the GCRO because this is really where it all starts.
“We’d like to thank Culver’s for its participation and support. It’s the tee-off event of our tournament week and I think it’s very fitting,” said McPartland.
Later Tuesday, the first of two GCRO pro-ams will tee it up. Competitors will have a chance to win a new car, sponsored by Dave Wright Nissan Subaru, for a hole in one on a designated par-3 hole.
Competitors in the second GCRO pro-am on Wednesday will have the same chance at a car, again courtesy of Dave Wright Nissan Subaru.
The 5th annual GCRO Mayoral Putting Contest will take place at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hunters Ridge. Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett is the defending champion.
The Granite City Food & Brewery Donor/Pro Dinner Party will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hunters Ridge Lodge. At 8 p.m., Nelson Electric will sponsor its annual Ball Drop.
The official tournament begins at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, July 23 when over 100 professionals from around the country will tee it up eyeing the record $22,000 winner’s check. Play in the 54-hole tournament will continue Friday and conclude Saturday afternoon.
Admission is free.
